Beauty and the Beast Miniseries by Nikki Dean Review

This adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, by author Nikki Dean, takes a decidedly different route from the beloved Disney version. Brace yourself, because this four-book miniseries isn't just a little steamy – it's downright smutty, even when the Beast is in the spotlight! *Note: If the unconventional romantic elements don't faze you, then you might find some enjoyment in this tale.

As someone who devours anything remotely connected to the Beauty and the Beast narrative – seriously, I can't get enough of it – I approached this version with high hopes. However, while it offered entertainment, I couldn't help but feel it fell short in execution. Sure, all the familiar characters are present, albeit with some tweaks (farewell Gaston, hello Gustav), but the story's potential expansions weren't fully realized.

The pacing, unfortunately, left much to be desired. Instead of a cohesive narrative, it felt more like reading an extended fanfiction. There were numerous loose ends left dangling, with crucial storylines left unresolved. Just when it seemed like everything was building to a satisfying climax, the rush to tie things up left me scratching my head.

In terms of rating, I'd give this miniseries:

  • 2.5/5 stars for overall satisfaction
  • 3.5/5 stars for spiciness
  • 1.5/5 stars for writing quality

While the storyline provided some enjoyment and the spicy elements were certainly present, the writing left much to be desired. Overall, it was a mixed bag of highs and lows, leaving me feeling somewhat frustrated by the missed opportunities for a more polished tale.
